Is autocomplete enough for writing code with AI?
Often, yes—for a function, a test, or a rename. Reach for a coding agent when the change spans files, needs tests to pass, or should follow project rules you do not want to paste every time.
How do I get more useful code from AI?
Give the file, the surrounding types, and what “done” looks like. Ask it to explain the change in a sentence. If the output is vague, the prompt was probably vague.
Should I paste secrets or production data into chat?
No. Use local agents and project ignore files for private repos, and keep keys in env vars. A coding assistant is not a vault.
